Regional ShaleGasFinder Package: Posidonia

This package contains literature synthesis, output including maps from basin modelling, insights from fluid inclusion studies, and kinetic parameters for predicting generation of total fluids, primary oil and gas, and secondary gas. It is available for lease on a multiclient basis.

Regional overview

Our literature list exceeds 100 references of both published articles and unpublished reports.

Source properties

We offer to summarize publically available information on TOC, Rock-Eval, and vitrinite reflectance data as well as thickness information. There is also a lot of data on mineralogy, maceral composition, biomarkers, sulphur content, kinetics, petro-physical properties, fluid inclusions, etc, but this information is typically only available for very few outcrops/wells.

Maturation history

Burial and temperature history models are already available both for northern and southern Germany, but at different resolution. For southern Germany, we have 1D information on individual wells/outcrops, whereas there is a 3D model available for entire northern Germany. This includes information on depth, temperature, maturity, petroleum generation for present-day, but also for different time steps in the past. Basin models and related maps can be provided.

Kinetics of yield and physical state

Image

Bulk kinetic parameters for primary petroleum generation for 6 maturity stages are provided.

A key petroleum system modelling component for shale gas, secondary gas generation kinetics, are also given.

A PhaseKinetics model (di Primio and Horsfield, 2006) for the Posidonia Shale is on offer. This consists of a 14 compound, phase predictive kinetic model. Additionally 2-compound and 4-compound models are also provided both in tabulated form as well as in digital format for direct incorporation into PetroMod, and PVT charact-erisation of the fluid types generated.

Fluid inclusions

  • Regional assessment with respect to thickness, burial depth, and maturity trends
  • Microthermometric data of fluid and gas inclusions (Tm, Th) from selected locations
  • Gas composition of fluid inclusions as analyzed by Laser-Raman spectroscopy
  • Isochoric sections for the reconstruction of P-T conditions during fluid entrapment
  • Reconstruction of subsidence and inversion history for selected regions
  • C-(N) isotopic composition of gas inclusions
  • Estimated maturity of Posidonia shale based on carbon isotopic composition of methane in fluid inclusions
  • Definition of maturity highs and lows and comparison with gravity and magnetic field maps
  • Conclusion with respect to favorable areas for further investigations and suggestions for further exploration
