GORfat
The kinetic parameters for petroleum generation from the primary cracking of kerogen and later from the secondary cracking of retained fluids and residual organic matter must be known and applied during petroleum system modelling (PSM) to correctly assess the composition (GOR) of expelled fluid phases over the complete maturation range. Nevertheless, when using industry standard PSM-software it is not possible to assign different kinetic schemes to the same source rock routinely leading to underestimation of especially late methane generated at high maturity.
GEOS4´s new phase-predictive compositional kinetic model "GORfat" covers all in-source petroleum generating reactions by combining primary oil and gas generative schemes (PhaseKinetics) with secondary gas generative schemes from in-source oil cracking (GORfit) and cracking of overmature organic matter (Late HC gas). A simple "one-in-all" kinetic model (discrete Ea distribution; single A) quantifies gas and oil expelled from source kitchens (GOR, CGR), as well as their phase state (1- or 2-phase), under varying and now much extended P-T conditions along carrier systems.
