GEOS4´s new GORfat compositional kinetic model

The switchover is complete! GEOS4´s famous PhaseKinetics approach (primary kerogen conversion) has now been integrated with secondary gas generation (cracking of unexpelled liquids) and Late Gas formation to create GORfat, a holistic and all-encompassing kinetic model.

This simple to use “All-in-One” kinetics model serves to provide the masses of generated fluids expelled from source kitchens, as well as composition and phase state (GOR/CGR, 1- or 2-phase, PVT) under varying and now much extended P-T conditions along carrier systems.

Implementation of the source specific GORfat – “All-in-One” model within your favourite PSM-software (PetroMod, Trinity, etc.) is super easy and simplifies workflow as it by-passes various well known modelling problems, such as:

  • different kinetic schemes cannot easily be assigned to the same source rock -> routinely leading to the underestimation of late gas charges

  • amounts of retained/unexpelled and thence secondarily crackable liquids can be modelled via thresholds for sorption or saturation of organic/inorganic porosity (black box feeling) -> seldomly done as those parameters are usually not known (have to be fitted/assumed or measured) potentially leading to the underestimation of gassier products

It is with great pleasure that we here announce that GEOS4 will be presenting GORfat application and implementation workflows at the Petromod User Group Meeting, 2026 within the plenary session on April 14 in Maastricht (Alexander Hartwig) and the workshops on April 16 in Aachen (Nicolaj Mahlstedt).
