New opportunities with basin-scale H2 screening

There are clear exploration opportunities with GEOS4’s PATHFINDER workflow for basin-scale hydrogen (H2) screening. Using this workflow, we test and combine multiple H2 generation processes and do apply step-wise modelling and interpretation in order to quantify and understand uncertainty. The goal is to identify sweet spots during the early exploration phase by integrating all available data into a three-dimensional geological context to begin risk assessment.

Modelling at regional scales is important, because although a basic understanding of the different H2 sources is in place, migration pathways, trapping mechanisms, and residence times require detailed investigation, and deep subsurface geological factors are often poorly constrained.
